Who Is The Ideal Patient?
Quoting Dr. Bill Atkinson:
“I’ve seen patients who cannot get out of bed, or who haven’t been able to leave their homes, even for several years. They have difficulty with reading, watching tv, or seeing their loved ones. Being able to see those things makes a big difference in their quality of life. I find this so rewarding.”
“Once I saw a woman who was in a nursing home who hadn’t had a new prescription in years. When she put on her new glasses she said with a big smile: “Wow! I can see!” She hadn’t been able to for several years.”
“One of my favorite patients is 106 years old, and hearing about her life 80 years ago is interesting. When she was born Theodore Roosevelt was president! I have a keen interest in history anyway, and she is living history to me!”
“I remember a patient who had MS, and to talk to her about her challenges in life gave me a new perspective ; she was so positive about facing her challenges. I will never forget her.”
“I enjoy visiting with some of my repeat patients, and even playing with their little dogs who have come to know me and expect their doggy treat each time. Some of my repeat patients I have seen for annual eye exams, or I’ve been treating them for an eye condition such as glaucoma, eye infections, or chronic dry eye.”
